This weekend I brought the kids to Burger King and I was waiting while they butchered the cow --I noticed a tree on the grass that had green berries on it, something like a Holly tree. Non-edible berries. The teachings of the Worldwide Church of God returned to mind, a proof of creation being "Edible food". Interesting how those berries are either no good for food, or perhaps even poison.

cyanide from bitter almonds?

arsenic from apple seeds?

"the miracle of edible food" is a product of evolution as I see it now, --the tree which produces the best fruit, is more likely to get picked and its seed carried off to a new area, when the food is eaten from around it, the seed is discarded and it can take root far away from the tree.

Birds consume grain and seeds and scattering them as they fly in their droppings (bees too, fertilizing plants as they gather pollen). The better the fruit, the likelier the seed to be carried off and spread --a matter of survival for some plant species... peaches, grapes, apples, etc. Humans are the unwitting seed carriers, not unlike the bee which fertilizes plants by gathering pollen.

"The Miracle of Living Food" --the non-miracle of evolution --some toadstools evolved into poison species, while others evolved non-poison species -- and what about that Tomato:

North Americans believed tomatoes were poisonous until 1820, when Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson disproved that myth during a public demonstration on the courthouse steps in Salem, NJ. In France, after the poison myth was dispelled, the people came to believe the tomato was an aphrodisiac and called it "pomme d'amour," or "love apple."

If God could provide a list of clean and unclean meats, why not a simple list of edible veggies?

"Mushroom poisoning is caused by the consumption of raw or cooked fruiting bodies (mushrooms, toadstools) of a number of species of higher fungi. The term toadstool (from the German Todesstuhl, death's stool) is commonly given to poisonous mushrooms, but for individuals who are not experts in mushroom identification there are generally no easily recognizable differences between poisonous and nonpoisonous species. Old wives' tales notwithstanding, there is no general rule of thumb for distinguishing edible mushrooms and poisonous toadstools. The toxins involved in mushroom poisoning are produced naturally by the fungi themselves, and each individual specimen of a toxic species should be considered equally poisonous. Most mushrooms that cause human poisoning cannot be made nontoxic by cooking, canning, freezing, or any other means of processing. Thus, the only way to avoid poisoning is to avoid consumption of the toxic species. Poisonings in the United States occur most commonly when hunters of wild mushrooms (especially novices) misidentify and consume a toxic species, when recent immigrants collect and consume a poisonous American species that closely resembles an edible wild mushroom from their native land, or when mushrooms that contain psychoactive compounds are intentionally consumed by persons who desire these effects."

The Designer purposely designed tasty mushroom species, but also designed them to all look so much alike that you have to play a game of Russian Roulette to find the non-toxic ones? He couldn't put a mark on the poisonous ones? Even human beings put a skull and cross bones on toxic compounds so they aren't ingested. But the Designer apparently couldn't come up with that sort of plan when it came to shrooms.

Not to mention the Designer having designed so many plants that produce compounds that get you "high" and/or induce and addiction. The Designer designed everything from the hemp plant (marijuanna) to the coca leaf (cocaine).

Sharon: Europeans are all too familiar with how a gene can go from producing a perfectly natural food, to a deadly toxin. They refer to genetically modified food as "Frankenstein Food".

NOW WHY DIDN'T THE DESIGNER THINK OF IT FIRST?

Examples of beneficial uses of genetic modification
The above examples contrast with that of a very promising GMO, 'golden rice' developed within a project led by scientists at a Swiss and a German university. This rice accumulates carotenes, i.e., precursors of vitamin A, in its endosperm (the edible part). Transfer of this rice to developing countries, particularly in South-East Asia, could mean the end of vitamin A deficiency in those regions. This is very important, since vitamin A deficiency causes blindness in a million children each year.

Another example may be applicable in Kenya, where it is impossible to cultivate corn because of a parasitic plant that grows there. It is possible to eliminate the parasite by treating fields with the total herbicide glyphosate, and to grow on the treated fields a genetically modified corn resistant to the herbicide.

comments: In this article you say that some foods that are poison to us proves evolution. That arguement is very weak. I know that there are many berries that are poisinous to human beings but are not to certain animals. I'm sorry that you believe these lies that people like you have created.


Sharon: Just curious creation@, what intelligent purpose does the Designer have behind food allergies? This morning on the news it was reported that a young girl died from kissing her boyfriend. He had eaten peanut products.
