Evolution and Male Aggression: Double Standards Just Good Ole' Monkey Business

MALE AGGRESSION
by Edward T. Babinski

I think the majority of human male primates on this planet are muscle bound testosterone driven brutes who commonly seek either psychological or physical domination over other males, females, and children. Males continue to fill our prisons more than women do. Just google up all the major horror stories reported by the news any day of the year and males continue to make bold verbal threats and murder and wage wars. Males continue to murder males galore even in their own coutries in gang warfare, organized crime, family disputes, robberies, and of course rape, torture and murder of females and children as well.

And holy books continue to contain verses about females being there to "serve and obey" males, which is also the message of the apes of the secular world as well. Even Hinduism preaches that being reincarnated as a female is not equal to being reincarnated as a male. Actually, I suspect the reverse is nearer the truth and that being reincarnated as a female is something more Hindu males ought to aspire to. I also suspect that more Muslim and Christian male ought to listen to females and make plans together with them rather than continue to inculcate in the female mind the necessity of "serving and obeying" them.

Still, even in an ideal world without males being physically and psychologically more dominating due to the effects of testosterone, I imagine that communication would remain difficult, as it often is even between two females, or two males. So there is no obvious solution to all the world's difficulties in reaching agreements. Also, some males are quite good at science and technology and at devoting themselves toward fixing some of the world's problems. Other law abiding males are relatively benign in the effects they have on society. Still others make mistakes and ask to be forgiven. So, the domineering and violent tendencies of male human beings in general must not be confused with every male--that would be a case of irrational prejudice.

In the end the only real resource we have for the future of humanity is the education of both males and females, both being allowed to pursue the quest for knowledge and a higher education and creativity as far as they each can go.

GOOD NEWS FOR WOMEN
"Because I was the victim of hatred, I have dedicated my life to reserve that hatred and turn it into understanding, tolerance, and--why not say it--into love."
-- Michelle Bachelet, newly elected president of Chile, who was jailed and tortured during the Pinochet dictatorship. She vowed to name women to half of the cabinet posts. (A.P.)

"By their votes, the Liberian people have sent a clear message that they want peace. They want to move on with their lives...to our sister republics--west, east, north or south of our borders--we make this pledge:
Under my administration, no inch of Liberian soil will be used to conspired and to perpetrate aggressions against your country."
-- Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, newly elected president of war-torn Liberia and Africa's first elected female president, who worked her way through college in the U.S. by mopping floors and waiting tables (Reuters)

The emancipation of women and end of child marriages in communist China has moved it from one of the worst places in the world to be a girl to one where women have more equality than in, say, Japan or Korea. (Though there remains an anti-female prejudice among farm families in the Chinese countryside whereby farmers kill newborn females because the government imposes a strict one-child policy, but the farmers want to ensure that the one child they raise will not be a female but a male who can work the fields, inherit the land, and carry on the family name.)

January 30, 2006, Sharon Mooney wrote: Just this morning on the news, skeletal remains identified of a young woman who had went to a party three years ago, and one of the men at the party is now charged with her murder. "Just another statistic". Oh no, nobody gets hurt the secular men say. Can't you imagine what happened before she was killed? Yes, relationship was implied in the news report.

Maybe you should crack out one of those "Why We Believe in a Designer" articles and list all the sick and crappy ways species mate, including the worst of all that resorts to outright murder, to mate -the human male.

Don't bother about the black widow, she's been exonerated of her nasty reputation:

Western Black Widows
Latrodectus hesperus
Females weigh 10-160 times as much as males, lending "weight" to the myth.
(from B.J. Kaston photo)

Myth: When black widow spiders mate, the female always kills and eats the male.

Fact: This myth (which is not totally false, but very far from true) is believed even by scientists, and can be found in many ecology textbooks! It's depressing; the authors are obviously copying each other and have never actually watched black widows mate in the field.

To understand the facts about black widow mating, you must first understand that there are many different species worldwide in the black-widow group (the genus Latrodectus), and three different black widow species in the United States alone, two in the east and one in the west. These species do not all behave alike. Moreover, in the past most observations of mating took place in laboratory cages, where males could not escape.

The only known Latrodectus species in which mate cannibalism in nature is the rule, not the exception, are in the Southern Hemisphere. Of U.S. species, mate cannibalism occurs sometimes in Latrodectus mactans, the eastern black widow, but most males survive to mate another day. In the other two black species, including the western black widow L. hesperus (only species west of Kansas), mate cannibalism has never been observed in the wild!

But we do have the male nurse shark, ripping open the gills on the female, and she swims away in shark infested waters, bleeding --which is dangerous. The tomcats out back, will bite the skin off my female cat's back... oh no, "nobody gets hurt" the men say. I think the sex industry is a sickening business.

The Mating Game.
So what are the sex-related homicide statistics like?
How many injuries and murders between domestic partners?

"Nobody gets hurt", the secular lawyers and spin doctors claim.
On the contrary, I'd say it's a very dangerous (even deadly) business.

One of the saddest stories I remember on television was of a two year old child, while the mother was at work, the boyfriend picks up the child and throws it through the window, busting the glass out. The child later died in the hospital.

The male animal... if the male dies in a pride of lions, and a new male moves in, he simply kills the offspring of the former. He isn't going to invest any energy or time caring for the offspring of another male. He will make his own. Very efficient isn't it?

Oh no, nobody gets hurt.
Secular men claim they're all "just nice men", and the women involved in the industry are just doing it voluntary.

BS.

"Females living in the wild routinely fall victim to everything from stereotyping to exclusion from pack activities to sexual harassment."

"In a world where interactions are rooted in competition, not cooperation, both females and males are being denied the right to form meaningful relationships."

"The male has no qualms about using sheer, brute force to overpower his sex partner, and the female, accustomed to this sort of rough treatment after millions of years of it, doesn't even realize there's something wrong."
DAMN STRAIGHT.

My question, remains unanswered. Does any species outside of the human, murder exclusively "female offspring"?

Grim motives behind infant killings
by Satinder Bindra
Infanticide in India, the social environment that can drive parents to kill their baby girls.
SALEM, India (CNN)
Sociologists blame such killings on a widely held Indian belief that girls are an economic drain because families still have to pay expensive dowries at the time of their marriage. Authorities have said that over the past few years, more than 4,500 female babies in India's southern Salem district alone have been killed -- by their own parents. Social scientists say the severity of the problem of selective abortions is so bad, the country's gender birth ratio shows there are 880 females for every 1,000 males. Modern technology has only worsened the phenomena. While infanticide has long been practiced, female foeticide is a relatively new phenomenon. Over the past decade, inexpensive access to ultrasound technology has led to many families determining the sex of an unborn child and then aborting it if it is found to be female.

In the southern Indian district of Salem, such murders are fairly common. In this region alone officials say that over the past year about one hundred female children have been murdered by their own parents. Some were asphyxiated, others poisoned or starved and many just left to die in sewers and garbage dumps.

Adoption scheme
Sociologists blame such killings on a deep-rooted gender bias.

Compared to boys, girls are believed to be an economic drain because it is still customary to pay the husband's family expensive, albeit iillegal, dowries at the time of their marriage.

So harsh is the dowry system, it can bankrupt a poor family with more than one daughter. This woman who killed her baby also says it is poverty that drives parents to murder. "If I could have clothed, fed and given the baby a decent life I wouldn't have done what I did.'' Officials are now trying to educate more women and find them higher paying jobs so they are better able to save their children and this region from so much suffering and shame.

The Chronicle: 5/24/2002: Evolution, Males, and Violence
On the domestic front, violent crime is overwhelmingly male. Studies of prosecution and imprisonment records in Europe, going back several centuries, as well as examinations of modern crime statistics from the United States and around the world show that men consistently outstrip women in criminality by a ratio of at least three or four to one. When it comes to violent crimes, the difference is even greater, with the disparity increasing as the violence intensifies (simple assault versus assault and battery versus manslaughter versus homicide). The only areas, in fact, in which women commit more crimes than men are prostitution (which some would argue is not a crime but an act between consenting adults) and shoplifting.

Another difference is that when women are consistently aggressive, it tends to take a defensive form, as when a woman kills a man who has abused her or her children, or fights to have a murderer condemned to death. The same is true among animals as well. A mother bear with cubs, for example, is notoriously fierce, as are other females who defend their young. Thus, while the aggression of women tends to be reactive, men are more likely to initiate violence, to commit truly "offensive" acts.

When it comes to the most serious violent crime, homicide, men are far and away the most frequent perpetrators. They are also most likely to be the victims, precisely as evolutionary theory predicts. Thus, murder is largely a crime of men against other men, a pattern that, in itself, points an accusing finger at male-male competition. For their book Homicide, two Canadian psychology professors, Martin Daly and Margo Wilson, reviewed murder records, specifically looking at cases involving members of the same sex, over a wide historical range and from around the world. They concluded, "The difference between the sexes is immense, and it is universal. There is no known human society in which the level of lethal violence among women even begins to approach that among men."

Daly and Wilson found that a man is about 20 times more likely to be killed by another man than a woman is by another woman. That holds true for societies as different from one another as modern-day urban America (Philadelphia, Detroit, and Chicago), rural Brazil, and traditional-village India, Congo, and Uganda. This is not to say that the actual murder rates are the same in those different places. In Iceland, for example, 0.5 homicides occur per million people per year, whereas in most of Europe, the figure is closer to 10 murders per million per year, and in the United States, over 100. The crucial point is that despite those wide differences, the basic male-female pattern remains stable: Male-male homicide exceeds its female-female counterpart by a whopping margin. That the ratio of male-male to female-female violence remains remarkably unvarying from place to place argues for its biological underpinnings and parallels the male-male competition seen in other species.

The same trend can be found across history. Thus, even though a 13th-century Englishman was 20 times more likely to be murdered than an Englishman is today, he was 20 times more likely to be murdered by another man than an Englishwoman was by another woman.

Moreover, if male-female differences derived essentially from arbitrary cultural traditions -- the well-known phenomenon in which societies typically imbue young men with the expectation of greater violence -- there should be at least some in which the situation is reversed, where young women are socialized to be the more violent sex.

Study Finds Sexism Rampant In Nature
March 13, 2002 | Issue 38•09
SAN DIEGO—According to a University of California–San Diego study released Monday, sexism is rampant throughout the natural world, particularly among the highest classes of vertebrates.

"When we first decided to examine attitudes and behaviors toward gender roles among non-humans, we were wholly unprepared for what we would find," said Jennifer Tannen, leader of the UCSD research team, a joint venture between the school's zoology and women's studies departments. "Females living in the wild routinely fall victim to everything from stereotyping to exclusion from pack activities to sexual harassment."

Nowhere is the natural world's gender inequity more transparent, Tannen said, than in the unfair burden females assume for the rearing of offspring. "Take the behavior of the ring-neck pheasant," Tannen said. "After mating, the male immediately abandons the hen, leaving her responsible for the total care for the chicks. For the single mother-to-be, there is no assistance, either in the form of a partner or child support. Nor is there any legal recourse. It's despicable."

Tannen said pheasants are typical of the natural world, where a mere 5 percent of animal species mate for life. Among species that do form lasting pairs, the situation barely improves: Females must remain close to the nest to incubate eggs, nurse, and keep watch over the burrow while males are free to go off hunting and fishing with their friends.

"The sexist attitude that child-rearing is 'women's work' is prevalent throughout nature and has been for generations, probably since reptiles first developed mammalian characteristics in the Triassic period," Tannen said. "Sadly, most creatures never pause to challenge these woefully outdated gender roles."

Tannen stressed the need to hold high those rare examples of species that do form caring, mutually supportive relationships.

"Wolves, beavers, gibbons, and a small African antelope known as a dik-dik all live in stable, monogamous pairs," Tannen said. "Other animals need to look to them as positive models if we are to have any hope of one day creating an ecosystem of understanding and respect."

More seriously, in addition to an unfair division of labor, nature is rife with sexual abuse and harassment. The UCSD study estimates that in 2001 alone, more than 170 trillion cases of abuse occurred in the world's forests, grasslands, and oceans—all of them unreported.

"During the act of mating, the female moose is subject to excessive biting, nipping, and herding," Tannen said. "The male has no qualms about using sheer, brute force to overpower his sex partner, and the female, accustomed to this sort of rough treatment after millions of years of it, doesn't even realize there's something wrong."

"Then, when it's time for the bull moose to complete the sexual act," Tannen continued, "it's over in about five seconds, with no regard to female pleasure whatsoever. Typical."

Adding insult to injury, Tannen said, the bull moose then heads off to mate with dozens more females over a period of two to three weeks, justifying his behavior as "part of the Mardi Gras-like atmosphere of 'mating season.'" With other species, darker situations unfold.

"To mate, the male Galapagos tortoise simply immobilizes the female with his weight, which, as far as I'm concerned, qualifies as non-consensual sex," Tannen says. "Female southern elephant seals gather in large groups during mating season, and each group has a small handful of males who control them like a harem. It's sick."

A cock reinforces the poultry world's sexist, male-dominated social hierarchy.
When female animals refuse to play along with prescribed gender roles, Tannen said, they are demonized. For example, female foxes, known throughout the animal kingdom for their aggressiveness, are labeled "vixen." "We've all heard the lurid tales about the female black-widow spider, who kills and eats her mate," Tannen said. "The truth is, male spiders encourage their partners to kill them because it increases the time spent mating and, thus, the number of eggs fertilized by his sperm. But no one condemns the male for his part in this destructive relationship."

UCSD researchers identified 24 distinct male behaviors designed to perpetuate gender inequity and preserve the prevailing power structure. Among these dominance-asserting behaviors are chest-puffing, plumage-spreading, and antler growth.

The UCSD study is not without its detractors. Glen Otis Brown, author of Forced To Strut: Reverse Sexism In The Animal World, countered that male animals are victims of "the beauty myth" as much as females.

"When given a choice, female green tree frogs gravitate toward males that call the loudest and most often," Brown said. "Female Poecilia reticulata [guppies] go straight to the most brightly colored males. But when males evolve exaggerated secondary sexual traits to attract the opposite sex, suddenly they're the bad guys."

Tannen conceded that both genders have suffered as a result of sexism. "Other than sexual size dimorphism due to same-sex competition, males benefit little from the gender inequity that so strongly favors them," Tannen said. "In a world where interactions are rooted in competition, not cooperation, both females and males are being denied the right to form meaningful relationships."

Subject: The Male Deity Connection

"These groups usually trace their beginnings to a male supreme being".

They can trace it in their own evolutionary history.

"the female, accustomed to this sort of rough treatment after millions of years of it, doesn't even realize there's something wrong."

And neither does the male.

It makes perfect sense.
Most religion is contrived out of the imaginations of men, and of course, after millions of years of evolution, it would "seem that something divine, down deep inside the sub-conscience (mistaken as the voice of god) is saying to prophets and priests, man is superior to woman." Divine providence, my foot.

"Societies with a high incidence of rape . . . tolerate violence and encourage men and boys to be tough, aggressive, and competitive. Men in such cultures generally have special, politically important gathering spots off limits to women, whether they be the Mundurucu men's club or the corner tavern. Women take little or no part in public decision making or religious rituals: men mock or scorn women's practical judgment. They also demean what they consider women's work and remain aloof from childbearing and rearing. These groups usually trace their beginnings to a male supreme being.
(Benderly 1982, p. 42)."

Benderly's conclusion is that:
The way society trains its boys and girls to think about themselves and each other determines to a large extent how rape-prone or rape-free that society will be (1982, p. 43).

In other words, societies that provide negative images of females and female roles are societies which are rape-prone. Pornography specialises in negative images of women.

Women Often Humiliated and Demonized in Pornography, Men's Sacred Books, Society, Etc.?
"It was bad conscience on the part of the men, who _knew_ they abused women. You see all the clerical writing on women as temptress, they gave in against their vows, so they had to put all the blame on the woman. So to justify themselves they made women bad. This technique was used by the Nazis, get someone to do bad to a Jew (like knock the hat off) and to maintain self respect the people who did that began to despise Jews. (I did something bad, therefore, the person I did it to deserved it, otherwise I would be a bad person.)

See Cognitive Dissonance".
-Walter Bushell

"She also strongly advocates the legalization of infanticide, which would enable females to devour their newborn offspring when resources are limited."

Sharon: I can sympathise with females having offspring by A MALE THEY DON'T WANT offspring from (quite often, rape (including statutory rape) is mistaken as mating in nature)... bad genes and I know lots of males trying to spread their defective little oats, society would be better off if they were sterilized (having no intent to support their children or providing a stable home environment). Or, maybe the female senses something is wrong with the offspring and they kill the offspring. I remember my poor cat dragging up to my steps meowing pitifully -she had her kitten in her mouth, but it was torn from the torso down and missing its head. I suspect this was the work of one of the tomcats that lay up around here for a free meal. I did see one female cat who killed her kittens and was eating them.

I'm sure infanticide is common in nature.

However, what really needs focus, is a lot of abortion would be prevented in the first place, if UNWANTED MALES REALIZED THEY'RE UNWANTED (i.e., teenaged abortions, and police cannot prosecute the child molestors), the fact how males kill offspring for no good reason, (territorial jealousies and nothing more), and how brutal they are toward females.

I'm sure from your male perspective, you see absolutely no harm in images, including humiliating images, that portray women flat of their back, ready to go to it. Oh, that must make you feel like something superior.. that poor peacock has to grow a super fine tail to attract females, but not a man. Huh? Those deer have to grow really big antlers and fighting to get their mate. Man just pays five bucks, and he's got his. Well, at least fantasies of it. That's like a Buck, no effort, broken horns, and sitting on its backside, yet having the luck of 10, 20, 40, 50, 100 Doe thrown at its feet for NOTHING. That's not reality.

Okay... men go on filling their mind full of that LIE, a lie against nature, a lie against women, and when it comes to intimacy with a real woman, well, you guys just have your heads full of junk, "women are easy, they come a dime a dozen", in fact, the magazines are so much easier than real intimacy ...

"I think I'll cash in reality, in exchange for fantasies", its forcing women compromise, becoming something, they're not! Take a look at these women and tell me if you think they "like or enjoy it" -and the argument fallacy, that "some women" are paid well? That's indifferent to the rest of us --easy pickins for men, means a lot of unwelcomed hardships for women.

Does it look like women "like it"?
Let's get with the program of the REAL WORLD.
Tell me, after looking at those womens' faces, it "doesn't hurt anyone."

Edward Babinski: "I am aware of the horrors of the porn industry, or any industry that pollutes and/or steals money from people, or ruins the health of its workers, using them like interchangeable underpaid cogs in a wheel. Of course we totally agree with one another concerning the issue of compulsion, if a woman or anyone of any sex, is being compelled to do things they do not want to do, that is wrong.

And yes, I agree that women get seduced into the porn industry with promises of wealth or fame, or because they are down on their luck and get into porn as a last resort to make ends meet. The temptation to make money in any easy fashion is inside all of us. If I knew a way to get all women in college and not a one of them choosing to get into pornographic images of themselves, I would do it.

Or they are literally enslaved, sold by their parents into sexual slavery in India or SouthEast Asia."

"Half the women I knew outside porn had been sexually abused as little girls, so it only stood to reason that the statistics might apply in porn as well. One study of the general population claims it is two out of three. The puzzling refrain I'd begun hearing from porn outsiders: "There are plenty of people with histories of sexual abuse who didn't grow up to be porn stars." That's missing the point: The ones who did become sex workers were abused. All of them, that's my guess."

Why Should Women Believe in a Designer?
Caught on Video: Sexual Assault Broadcasted for the World to See

How would you feel if you were humiliated repeatedly for the same thing—first in a crowd of parade watchers and then on national television while millions were watching? This is what happened to dozens of women this past June who were sexually assaulted by groups of men during a parade in New York City, and then got their half-naked bodies broadcasted on TV news programs across the country!

Nearly 50 women had water thrown on them and their clothes ripped off by a mob of wild men who laughed and cheered each other on during the annual Puerto Rican Parade in Central Park. Even though 900 officers were patrolling the park that day, instead of the usual 36, the mob of men still got out of control. Several victims reported that their complaints of sexual assault to police at the time were ignored and not taken seriously.

In addition to the police failing to take action, many parade watchers stood by and caught home video footage of the assaults, video footage that was bought by national news stations and broadcasted across the country. Did the news stations need to buy and show the footage of half-naked women being sexually assaulted to explain what happened to the rest of America? Teen Voices doesn’t think so! By repeatedly showing these videos, the news stations were exploiting the victims and their bodies just like the mob of wild men did. News stations such as CNN and NBC repeatedly ran this footage in their coverage of the story. Instead of helping this situation of sexual violence against women, wasn’t the airing of these videos making it worse by showing men like the attackers more of what they wanted to see? Why did the news broadcasts show mostly the women’s bodies instead of the violent men?

But it doesn’t stop there! News shows like “Dateline NBC” also supplied sexist comments to go along with their national showing of the sexual assaults in Central Park. As reported by Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), “Dateline” presented comments like this one from a man who witnessed the attacks and described the attackers as, “a crowd of guys just oversexed and overheated... They saw open flesh and they just got hungry for more.” What?! This quote suggests that the women encouraged the men to sexually attack them just by what they were wearing. This is like saying if a woman is wearing a short skirt, any man has the right to walk up to her and rape her because he can’t control himself. How could “Dateline,” a national news program, focus on this sexist and ridiculous comment instead of what is clearly a disturbing example of violence against women?

TAKING ACTION
It’s not too late! You can help stop the media from doing this again. Let “Dateline NBC” know that what they did was wrong by sending them a letter.
Central Park Attacks

"Doesn't hurt nobody" Does this lady look voluntary to you?

(CNN) -- New York City police are accused of not acting fast enough when officers were allegedly told that a mob of young men had gotten out of control and were attacking women in Central Park.
At least 10 women were assaulted Sunday when 20 to 40 men doused the victims with water, ripped their clothing off and groped them. Some of the women were robbed of money and jewelry.

"They tried to pull my shorts off of me, and I was kicking people with my skates and fighting," said Anne Peyton, a 29-year-old kickboxing instructor who was in-line skating at the park. Peyton said that when she skated up to police officers and told them that she had been assaulted, "They told me that I could file a report." She said she told them, "'The crowd is out of control. You need to do something. Please send someone in, someone is going to get hurt.'" She said the officers still did did nothing. "They had absolutely no interest in going toward that area," said Patrick Orlando, who was with Peyton. "No one stood up. No one moved. No one got on the radio to report the problem."

Mayor offers reward to catch attackers
Two civilians have filed complaints against police officers alleging that they did not respond. "If that's true, that's very, very troubling, and that should lead to significant disciplining of police officers," New York Police Commissioner Howard Safir said. Ironically, on the day of the attacks there were more than 900 officers patrolling the park, instead of the usual 36 officers, because of the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Fifth Avenue. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani acknowledged that at least 10 women were sexually assaulted by 20 to 40 men in public. "I'm very concerned about the women that were assaulted," Giuliani said. "As concerned -- actually maybe more concerned than you are -- because I feel very responsible." The mayor offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any of the attackers.

Videotapes may play key role in case
On Tuesday, police were working with several TV stations to obtain amateur videotape of the attacks that was aired during Monday and Tuesday's newscasts. Police hope to identify some of the suspects. One man who shot a tape said he was frightened. "I know it's kind of scary to see a couple of guys group up around a female or two and just terrorize them," said Jose Mercado. Two men have been arrested. At their bail hearing Tuesday, prosecutors related the ordeal of an 18-year-old British tourist. She and her friends were surrounded and soaked with water, and men tore at her shirt, ripped off her shorts and groped her. Then the men were gone, fleeing into crowds of people in the park. The woman quickly found two officers who helped her search for her attackers. Minutes later, two men -- David Rowe, 24, and Tremayne Bain, 23 -- were arrested. But their lawyers said police got the wrong men. "I felt that they were under a lot of pressure to arrest somebody," defense attorney David Kapner said. Gordon Ludwig, Bain's lawyer, said the group that the two men were with gave a videotape to police that shows the defendants were not involved. Police did not immediately comment on Ludwig's assertions. Rowe and Bain were charged with sexual abuse and robbery. Bail was set at $10,000 for each. Some 34 million tourists visit New York every year. But the weekend attacks will keep at least one woman away from such events. "I will never again leave my house to participate in a Thanksgiving Day parade or any large event that is part of the culture of New York," Peyton said tearfully.
Central Park Assaults

Ed Babinski: Your request for permission to cut off my dick also was not appreciated.

Sharon: Like VIOLENT PORNOGRAPHY, that's "merely freedom of speech", isn't it Ed? ask the ACLU. "It doesn't hurt anyone," remember? I presumed you'd be elated at the free exercise thereof.

But I understand. When the woman says "no, stop that", it doesn't mean anything. Only when the man says "stop that", is it to be taken seriously. Your letter attempts to put me into apology mode, right. Okay, I'll apologize for asking permission to cut your pecker off since you're so sensitive about it. But, that doesn't change anything on the freedom of speech issue, they say nobody should stop the "sharing of ideas" including the Ku Klux Klan and Sexist Pornography which humiliates and dehumanizes women.
You say it is "freedom of speech" when men make sexually suggestive images, humiliating women -- further reinforcing a traditional stereotype of women, a message is being sent out to the mass population, loud and clear, and they buy into it, you buy into it, you figure I can make a friendly request to them to stop, and they'll just stop? I am under the impression from your response to me, you do feel "expression" is hurtful.

VERY DEPRESSING: Old man surrounded by many young women and "they like it"
It is very depressing to women. I saw one disgusting liquor advertisement in a mens' magazine, once, old man, probably in his mid to late 50's, maybe early 60's, surrounded by young, thin half-naked super models... he had a brothel in other words, and sitting back like a king as they served and entertained him. He's soooooo very important, while several women slave to his whims. Now tell me, where does a woman in her 50's or 60's fit in this fantasy? Women in this society, are not even allowed such fantasies! They're lucky if they even have a husband, and if they do, that he doesn't pull a Dan Broderick behind their back.

So the message goes out to society -one man, many women, good old biblical polygamy. The anger I feel, burns. Such imagery serves only one purpose, reaffirming the traditional stereotypes of women -keeping women down at the social status of sex object and traditional breeder. No wonder it's so easy for male serial killers to disrespect and killing women by the dozen.

DOUBLE DEPRESSING: Older woman with one man, and he "resents it"
Watching television I saw an advertisement for a European Lotto. It showed an older woman in her 50's or so, on her back floating in a swimming pool. She was rich, and had lipstick on puckering to the camera, her hair was fancy -- expensive bathing suit. And a young man in his 20's or so, slaving to her whims. The commercial was purposely trying to make her look old, nasty and disgusting. The punchline, said "Be your own sugardaddy", --in other words, win their product, live the high life, whilst dumping the old broad and I suppose they intended to rub that social message in deeper, "moving on to the young women --and I do mean plural "women". So, who's telling these women in their 50's and 60's they're worth anything?

Just like King David and Solomon, one of the wives wasn't good enough -they had to fetch a young virgin to keep the king "warm" on his death bed. Women aren't valued like men. In modern mainstream commercial advertising, women are getting beaten up and humiliated.

No wonder statistics in research show men are typically happier than women.

I heard a sad story on PBS, about a woman who'd contracted Herpes and she said "When you're 40, A WOMAN, and find out you have Herpes, life is over."

Do you ever hear any men saying something as hopeless as that? it's cruel and inhumane. WHY must women live like this?

The torture inflicted upon women accused of witchcraft was especially cruel.

HATRED AND SUPERSTITION OF WOMAN
"The process of formally persecuting witches followed the harshes inquisitional procedure. Once accused of witchcraft, it was virtually impossible to escape conviction. After cross-examination, the victim's body was examined for the witch's mark. The historian Walter Nigg described the process:

...she was stripped naked and the executioner shaved off all her body hair in order to seek in the hidden places of the body the sign which the devil imprinted on his cohorts. Warts, freckles, and birthmarks were considered certain tokens of amorous relations with Satan.

Should a woman show no sign of a witch's mark, guilt could still be established by methods such as sticking needles in the accused's eyes. In such a case, guilt was confirmed if the inquisitor could find an insensitive spot during the process.

Confession was then extracted by the hideous methods of torture already developed during earlier phases of the Inquisition. "Loathe they are to confess without torture," wrote King James I in his Daemonologie. A physician serving in witch prisons spoke of women driven half mad:

...by frequent torture...kept in prolonged squalor and darkness of their dungeons... and constantly dragged out to undergo autrocious torment until they would gladly exchange any moment this most bitter existence for death, are willing to confess whatever crimes are suggested to them rather than to be thrust back into their hideous dungeon amid ever recurring torture.

Unless the witch died during torture, she was taken to the stake. Since many of the burnings took place in public squares, inquisitors prevented the victims from talking to the crowds by using wooden gags or cutting their tongues out. Unlike the heretic or a Jew who would usually be burnt alive only after they had relapsed into their heresy or Judaism, a witch would be burnt upon the first conviction.

Sexual mutilation of accused witches was not uncommon. With the orthodox understanding that divinity had little or nothing to do with the physical world, sexual desire was perceived to be ungodly. When the men persecuting the accused witches found themselves sexually aroused, they assumed that such desires emanated, not from themselves, but from the woman. They attacked breasts and genitals with pincers, pliers and red-hot irons. Some rules condoned sexual abuse by allowing men deemed "zealous Catholics" to visit female prisoners in solitary confinement while never allowing female visitors. The people of Toulouse were so convinced that the inquisitor Foulques de Saint-George arraigned women for no other reason than to sexually abuse them that they took the dangerous and unusual step of gathering evidence against him.

Old and poor women were most often the first accused of witchcraft.

"The most common victims of witchcraft accusations were those women who resembled the image of the Crone. As the embodiment of mature feminine power, the old wise woman threatens a structure which acknowledges only force and domination as avenues of power. The Church never tolerated the image of the Crone, even in the first centuries when it assimilated the prevalent images of maiden and mother in the figure of Mary. Although any woman who attracted attention was likely to be suspected of witchcraft, either on account of her beauty or because of a noticeable oddness or deformity, the most common victim was the old woman. Poor, older women tended to be the first accused even where witch hunts were driven by inquisitional procedure that profited by targeting wealthier individuals.

Old, wise healing women were particular targets for witch-hunters. "At this day," wrote Reginald Scot in 1584, "it is indifferent to say in the English tongue, 'she is a witch' or 'she is a wise woman'." Common people of pre-reformational Europe relied upon wise women and men for the treatment of illness rather than upon churchmen, monks or physicians. Robert Burton wrote in 1621:

Sorcerers are too common; cunning men, wizards and white witches, as they call them, in every village, which, if they be sought unto, will help almost all infirmaties of body and mind.

By combining their knowledge of medicinal herbs with an entreaty for divine assistance, these healers provided both more affordable and most often more effective medicine than was available elsewhere. Churchmen of the Reformation objected to the magical nature of this sort of healing, to the preference people had for it over the healing that the Church or Church-lisenced physicians offered, and to the power it gave women.

IMAGES LACK THE POWER TO INFLUENCE MINDS?

The dying baby lying under its dead father is the most moving detail provided by Honoré Daumier (1808-79) in his condemnation of the brutality of French governmental policy in dealing with the working classes.
In April 1834, workers in Lyon and Paris, led by the secret Society of the Rights of Man, rioted to demonstrate against harsh working conditions and the passage of a new law forbidding unionization. On the night of April 14-15, a sniper in Paris killed an officer. In retaliation, a number of innocent residents were killed by the police, including a woman and a child. Duamier's printer, Charles Philipon wrote of this print:
This is not caricature . . . it is a blood-stained page in the history of our days, traced by a vigorous hand and inspired by noble indignation... he has created a picture which will never lose its worth or duration, even if it consists of only black lines on a sheet of paper.

Daumier's print was publicly displayed and was sold in mass quantities in a journal in which Daumier's other political and humorous prints often appeared. Already in 1832, at the age of twenty-four, Daumier had served five months in prison because he had caricatured King Louis Philippe as Gargantua, but this experience did not weaken his determination to make statements through his prints about the moral and political problems and issues of his day.

The opinions and criticism revealed in popular prints by Daumier and others, however, eventually became too much for the government to bear. In 1835, laws were passed that proclaimed that "Frenchmen have the right to circulate their opinions in published form," but that "drawings" were such an "incitement to action" that complete liberty in this realm was no longer permitted. After this point, Daumier's prints became more humorous and less political.

Subject: Guys, really.

I don't know what got into Ed, but whatever it was, it was real sweet.
Gloria Steinem and Camille Paglia would have to give this one a well deserved applause.
I know, because I'm a woman, and they're feminists, and I was levelled.

Babinski: "... And holy books continue to contain verses about females being there to "serve and obey" males, which is also the message of the apes of the secular world as well."

Sharon: whaaaaa...?

"Babinski: "...Even Hinduism preaches that being reincarnated as a female is not equal to being reincarnated as a male. Actually, I suspect the reverse is nearer the truth and that being reincarnated as a female is something more Hindu males ought to aspire to. I also suspect that more Muslim and Christian male ought to listen to females and make plans together with them rather than continue to inculcate in the female mind the necessity of "serving and obeying" them."

Like Darwin, Ed has expressed a very dangerous idea.
These guys, secular, who've long claimed they were on the side of women -when in fact, they've not been, i.e., Miss America is secular, but do they care about the average jane? Of course not. Those scholarships are reserved for those minority of women who fit the stereotype that men approve of. (Feminists have been raising cane over it, but nobody home, nobody listening -- just like so many girls have told boys "No. Stop." but when a girl says "no", she really is saying "yes, yes, yes", -for it is a problem thousands of years old, men are simply, hard of hearing.)
